Your visit

We’re a single screen cinema based in the Sheffield Students’ Union Nelson Mandela Auditorium. Make your way to the Students’ Union, located in Western Bank (just off Glossop Road). Once inside, you can find us by descending the stairs located outside Coffee Revolution. You can collect your tickets from SU Welcome Desk. If you can’t find us, any of the SU staff will be able to point you in the right direction.

You don’t have to be a student to enjoy Film Unit. Everyone can come and see our films!

You can buy a ticket in the Student's Union building (from the Box Office during the week and from the Welcome desk on the weekends), or from Remember to collect the ticket from Welcome Desk before the screening.

If the film is appropriate, absolutely! We even offer discount children’s tickets for those aged 12 and under. We show a number of child friendly films throughout the term and even run a fortnightly Saturday Kids Club, which show a family friendly film at the earlier time of 12:00. We now offer a Family Ticket exclusively for Kids Club screenings, which will admit 3 people for only £5 - 2 children and 1 adult, or 1 child and 2 adults. Check our full schedule for details on which films are part of Saturday Kids Club. ID or proof of age may be required for films 12A and above rated screenings.

All of our matinees, unless stated otherwise will be hard-of-hearing friendly. This means that the film will be shown with closed caption subtitles. There will also be signs displayed outside the auditorium, explaining our house rules and staff will be on-hand to answer any questions you might have. If the fire alarm sounds, the house lights will come on, the sound will cut and the curtains will close. In this case we will have printed cards explaining the situation and the procedure that must be followed.

Please note, autism friendly screenings will not be subtitled.

Our autism-friendly screenings differ from standard screenings in the following ways: there is no music played before the screening, the volume is reduced, lights are dimmed more than usual, screen brightness is reduced, the audience capacity is capped to avoid the screening from being too crowded, a separate safe space/calm down area is available, audience members are free to move around and sit where you like. You can bring your own food and drink (although no hot food or alcohol). Carers receive free entry.

The cinema has disabled access and dedicated wheelchair spaces.

Here at Film Unit we believe that cinema is for everyone. That’s why it's important to us that no access issue gets in the way of you enjoying the cinema experience.
That's why all of our matinee screenings are hard-of-hearing friendly, we have dedicated wheelchair spaces in our auditorium and we hold regular autism-friendly screenings throughout the year. If you have any other accessibility requirements or suggestions to improve our service, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
