In 1973, 29 year-old Billie Jean King is at her best in her tennis player career. She benefits from a powerful media image that she uses to fight for gender equality. But Bobby Riggs, an older World No.1 in male tennis decides to challenge her. With a strong dose of sexist sarcasm, he relentlessly criticises the young woman on her fight against inequalities and even goes as far as to say that he can beat her at tennis. King accepts the challenge and a match is organised. Loosely based on real events, Battle of the Sexes is a witty and cleverly demonstrates that battles against backward ideas are worth fighting, whether on a tennis court or not.
